Lighting and energy consumption

A recent article in the New York Times shows that after climbing for decades, electricity use by American households has declined over the past eight years.

We’ve seen a lot of facility assessment data showing that many school districts are planning to convert existing incandescent fixtures to LED lighting,

The use of LEDs can make a significant difference to the energy bill, and the energy bill for school districts tends to be #2 on the list of expenses after salaries.

Tracking energy consumption should be high on the list of facility managers, but we don’t see it that often. Annual energy use is a field in our Campus Catalog section of BondPlanner.

Do you track energy usage? Are you considering a conversion to LED lighting?

We’d like to hear about it!
